Autumn Dawn

Journey to Independence

Gorgeous sunrise

We had such a beautiful sunrise that I had to share it.

Retro-fitting

I plan to reorganize some of my blog posts in the near future to make the website easier to navigate to the new posts. There shouldn't be any downtime, but you may need to use a keyword if you're looking for something in particular.

Catching Up

Hiya,

Yeah, it's been a while. Last fall slammed us with job changes, visiting family, my husband working away for six months and finally coming home. My garden last summer died while I was away and I just couldn't get it caught back up again. I'm writing 2015 off and planning for 2016. Weeee! I'm making plans for a greenhouse, expanding my garden into one long stretch, and planting some trees. I'm not sure whether I'm going to plant from seed or go for started cuttings yet. We shall see.

Feel free to contact me on my Facebook if you are interested in Permaculture. I'm always eager to chat with others about it. Happy

Purpose

Welcome to my blog! Wait... what? I have a blog? Yes... yes, I do. How about that? I like to write and I like to learn. I also like to share what I learn and store it where I can find it again. It makes perfect sense to do all that in a blog, right? I guess so. I think I should stop talking to myself and get to the point...

Anytime you make a website or a blog, you’re supposed to have a purpose or a passion to be sharing with the world. Hopefully that purpose or passion is unique enough that folks will stumble upon your blog and find the info you share informative and helpful, or at least entertaining.

My purpose for this blog is to:
1. Collect and categorize interesting and helpful information on my pet subjects (you’ll find those in the tabs up top)
2. Share recipes that I and my family have enjoyed
3. Share my views on the world around me and engage in some intelligent conversation
4. Spread a little humor along the way

I’m sure that this purpose will evolve and grow as I do. This particular entry may change from time to time to reflect that. Happy

I hope you enjoy the information I share and feel welcome to ask questions and comment. If you prefer to comment privately, please use the Contact Me tab. If you have a recipe to recommend, I would love to try it. Please email it to me via the Contact form.

Introduction

I guess I should start with who I am and how I came to be where I am, but life stories are boring and tedious and I’m sure you’ve got better things to do, right?

Still here?

I guess I can give you the short version then...

My father was always a do-it-yourself kind of guy and he had a knack for fixing things. My mom would also patch up anything in the house from loose chair legs to ripped jeans. I learned that love of doing for yourself, and if I don’t know how, I research and experiment until I do.

Both of my parents were fans of T.V. shows that featured resourcefulness, family values, and do-right-by your neighbor. Shows like Little House on the Prairie and Grizzly Adams were held in high esteem. I think my parents both longed to live out in the middle of nowhere, managing their own homestead, and away from the bustle and noise of town.

I share that dream. I want to have a home “away from it all” where it’s quiet and no one will bother us. I want to live in a place where we are free to do as we please so long as it doesn’t harm anyone else. I want to make, build, grow, and be happy.

What more could you ask for?
